Notes on this weekend
1. I watched far too many girlie movies this weekend. "Love, Actually" AND "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants"? Vomit. In a good way...?
2. I finished reading The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. I'm not sure I have enough experience with death (meaning, no experience whatsoever) to fully appreciate the book. I liked many parts of it, but Didion seemed to depend too much on repeating snippets of previous passages. Every chapter ended with a repetition. And it got cloying after awhile. Maybe if I read it again in 20 years I'll love it. Parts of it were beautiful. But...too much deep, resonating repetition. Now it's on to Memoirs of a Geisha. Hopefully this Arthur Golden fellow can write, since he caused me to put off my TM by an entire quarter.
3. I've decided that, despite the super-awkward discussions, I like my poetry class. At least it keeps my writing limber, and it gave me an excuse to buy the Nortie. I haven't written anything I haven't covered before, but I only have so many topics in me at this point, and I'm no poet. I like poetry because of the word games it forces me to play, to invert syntax here or find a synonym with the emphasis on the second beat there. Because yes, I am a geek. And that's okay.
4. Thinking about taking the "War and Peace" class next quarter as a fifth class. Because I love me some Tolstoy. But then again, how much reading am I willing to do? Probably not that much.
